In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, our TSF veterans and their families stepped up to Pay it Forward in many ways. Greg Dotson and Charles Lauersdorf teamed up with the Cajun Navy and Texas National Guard to man rescue boats to save hurricane victims trapped in the homes, cars and rising flood water. The duo used their military skills conducting high water rescues from Kingwood to Beaumont and Rockport. Greg and Charles have continued their relief efforts by transporting donated cleaning supplies, water, food and clothing to hard hit areas.
Jason and MaryJoy North assisted in the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts by setting up an evacuation site for displaced persons and their pets in Killeen, Texas. Working feverishly through the night the couple set up cots and bedding and consolidated care packages for 500 evacuees. Jason continued to lend a helping hand by removing sheetrock, drywall and damaged furniture as part of a “Veterans Demo Team” for homes in the Houston area.
Mike and Robyn Burns and their 4 children coordinated efforts for a Hurricane Harvey supply trailer and hauled thousands of pounds of supplies to the greater Houston area. Mike and his family made to two trips to Houston to bring much needed water, baby items, food, bedding, pet food, cleaning supplies and clothing for flood victims. Mike coordinated with Sienna Plantation veterans to run a distribution point for two weeks with the items brought in from the Abilene area.
Phillip and Tammy Blackmon celebrated their wedding anniversary by asking their friends to help with “Operation Fill My Trailer”. The couple brought relief supplies to the hardest hit areas in and around Beaumont where their TSF home is scheduled to be built in the near future.
Jorge and Stephani Segura and their daughters helped the Houston First Responders by providing food and dry socks for those who were working 24/7 for the week after the hurricane. They also helped stock the donation supply Point in Sienna Plantation.
SSG Andrew Valadez, 2016 TSF home recipient, now an HPD Officer worked a continuous week during Hurricane Harvey rescuing flood victims and uncertain of his families own safety. Yet his wife, Emily and their two sons made it to safety and coordinated relief efforts and donations for the community and First Responders.
Richard and Jeanne Filip, Co-Founders of the Texas Sentinels Foundation shared “It warms our hearts and fills us both with a sense of pride to see our TSF veterans and their families paying it forward for Hurricane Harvey victims.”
