SGT Erich Ellis was awarded a new ADA compliant custom home in Sanger, Texas on January 20, 2016 as the first Texas Sentinels Foundation home of the new year. The mayor of Sanger, friends, neighbors, donors, battle buddies and Erich’s home team led by Mark Wolffe of RE/MAX DFW lined the yard of his stunning new home complete with acreage and a therapeutic swimming pool. Congressman Dick Armey gave the opening address and commended Marine SGT Erich Ellis on  a job  well done.

In June 2012, while serving his 4th tour of duty in the Helmand River Valley,  Afghanistan, SGT Ellis, assigned to Marine Special Operations Command, was hit by an IED while on a foot patrol.  Erich lost his right leg and suffered numerous other critical injuries.  Ellis was unconscious for two weeks and when he awoke he was in the ICU at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas.  Erich endured 10 surgeries to save his life in the following month.  Embodying the characteristics of a true American hero, Ellis was awarded the Purple Heart for his sacrifice and courageous service. As team leader of the project, RE/MAX DFW Associates is pleased to announce Sgt. Erich Ellis as the latest recipient of the Texas Sentinel Foundation, Mortgage-Free Home, in the North DFW area. RE/MAX DFW Associates Frisco Office Manager, Mal Smith notes, “We can never repay these severely injured young men and women returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. However, we can show our appreciation for their sacrifice by assisting them on the path to a 100% mortgage free, ADA compliant, fully furnished home through donations to the Texas Sentinels Foundation.”

The Texas Sentinels Foundation scholarship program was developed to assist members of our Armed Forces who were severely wounded or injured in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001. The program helps recipients re-adjust to civilian life and prosper in their home towns or new communities. Scholarship recipients receive assistance in the form of mortgage-free housing, new furniture and other household supplies, career placement assistance and training, new adaptive vehicles based on need, and financial and personal mentorship. TSF Executive Officer, Susie Barlow states, “Never before in this nation has a comprehensive scholarship of this kind been offered to the members of our Armed Forces who return to us severely wounded or injured.”

SGT Ellis is the recipient of the Purple Heart Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat V device, Combat Action Ribbon – Afghanistan and Iraq; Iraq Campaign Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2);and many other combat and NATO awards and ribbons.

The Texas Sentinels Foundation wishes to express our gratitude for all those donors, supporter and sponsors who made this home a dream come true while helping to build a new life for this deserving TSF wounded warrior.

Abilene Partners to Build Dream Home for SSG Mike Burns

Abilene Partners to Build Dream Home for SSG Mike Burns

The Texas Sentinels Foundation Home Team in Abilene and Cornerstone Custom Builders partnered with numerous Abilene businesses to award Army wounded warrior Staff Sergeant Mike Burns and his family the keys to a beautiful new custom built dream home on May 29, 2015.  Emotions ran high as hundreds of business leaders, contractors, veterans, neighbors and community leaders welcomed the Burns family to the neighborhood just steps away from Wylie High School.

Burns Home1-1“SSG Burns was selected as a TSF home recipient in 2014 but with his special ADA needs and 4 growing children it was obvious we needed time to allow Matt Loudermilk, Tim Ellis, owners of Cornerstone Custom Builders and the Cornerstone Custom Builders design team to create the perfect home. SSG Burns was awarded a Texas Sentinels Foundation Life Scholarship and within 3 weeks the Burns family moved from Arizona to a fully furnished rental house in Abilene. This allowed Mike and Robyn Burns to monitor the progress of the home and integrate into the community of Abilene at the same time” explained Laura Yarborough, Abilene Home Team leader.

“Many thanks to everyone involved in building the ADA compliant home for Mike Burns and his family. All our TSF homes are 100% debt-free, mortgage-free and furnished which lifts the financial burdens off our TSF wounded warriors. They can focus on their rehabilitation and start building their new lives in the comfort and safety of their dream home” declared Richard Filip, Co-Founder of the Texas Sentinels Foundation.
