Jeramie Green

Specialist Jeramie Green joined the Army in 2010 and was assigned to the 173d Airborne Brigade, Vicenza, Italy. Green deployed to Wardack, Afghanistan in 2012 and served as a squad leader for a heavy equipment wrecker team.

Two days before he was scheduled to return to Italy from Afghanistan after more than a year in a combat zone, Specialist Green was severely injured.

On February 13, 2013, Green was returning from a mission to retrieve a vehicle that had been blown up. Green was a member of the Combat a Recovery Team responsible for operating and maintaining g an $800,000 combat wrecker truck. Once Green entered the FOB (Forward Operating Base) and unloaded the damaged vehicle from his wrecker, the safety chain broke, the wheel blocks failed and the 5 ton vehicle began to roll towards a refueling point with 200 soldiers in the immediate area. Specialist Green made a split second decision to chase the 5 ton truck, attempt to unlock the door and stop the vehicle. Jeramie was able to climb up onto the running board, unlock the door and reached his arm into the vehicle to steer it away from the refuel point.  Jeramie’s arm was hopelessly trapped and Jeramie was dragged along with the vehicle more than 100 feet off the side of the mountain. Jeramie landed in heavy snow and the vehicle landed on his chest and legs, crushing him. A fellow soldier reached him and applied tourniquets to his legs to stop the profuse bleeding. A Crain was used to extract him from the mountainside. Jeramie was Medevac’ed to Bagram Air Base and later to Landstuhl, Germany.

Jeramie suffered an above the knee amputation, limb salvage left leg, knee replacement, crushing chest and internal injuries, multiple skin grafts and many other injuries. Jeramie has endured more than 76 surgeries to date. He was spent more than 2 years at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Specialist Green’s awards include Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Badge, Overseas Service Ribbon and a pending Purple Heart.

Specialist Green attended Nicholls State University before joining the Army. He enjoys hunting, fishing, sports and cooking.

Specialist Green, a native of Baton Rouge, and his wife Lindsey are the proud parents of a daughter, Khaleesi.
