The Project Hero Family Festival Fundraiser on behalf of the Woodlands Texas Sentinels Foundation Team had all the sights, sounds and excitement of an old-fashioned county fair, complete with the RE/MAX Skydiving Team in a spectacular presentation of the colors as part of the Opening Ceremonies.
Wounded Army Veteran Chris Sanford and his wife Christine were joined by hundreds of their new neighbors in the Creekside Park area of The Woodlands, along with U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady, who addressed the crowd while giving thanks for Sanford’s service and sacrifice.
Team Co-Chairs Jacci Kilgore and Carol Knott praised the hard work by event sponsors SWBC Mortgage and other locally involved businesses who provided sponsorship resources and underwriting for the community event.
Nearly a dozen local and national musical performing groups, twirling demonstrations, dance ensembles, martial arts exhibitions and other family entertainment presentations wowed the crowds at the main pavilion stage while a carnival midway offered children’s games, contests with prizes and a variety of activities.
“Our community has been fabulous in support of this effort,” said Carol Knott. “And we have so many additional fundraising events yet to come, with Motorcycle Hero Ride on October 22nd, the November 5 Power Hour at Legends Sports Complex in the afternoon, and the Freedom to Laugh Comedy Show at the Grand Palace later that evening at 8pm. There are so many ways community members can contribute, and that’s one of the reasons we’ve enjoyed such wonderful participation.”
With final event tallies yet to come, the Family Festival was an unqualified success, raising in excess of $23,000 towards providing a mortgage-free home to Chris and Christine Sanford.
