The Texas Sentinels Foundation Home Team in Abilene and Cornerstone Custom Builders partnered with numerous Abilene businesses to award Army wounded warrior Staff Sergeant Mike Burns and his family the keys to a beautiful new custom built dream home on May 29, 2015. Emotions ran high as hundreds of business leaders, contractors, veterans, neighbors and community leaders welcomed the Burns family to the neighborhood just steps away from Wylie High School.
“SSG Burns was selected as a TSF home recipient in 2014 but with his special ADA needs and 4 growing children it was obvious we needed time to allow Matt Loudermilk, Tim Ellis, owners of Cornerstone Custom Builders and the Cornerstone Custom Builders design team to create the perfect home. SSG Burns was awarded a Texas Sentinels Foundation Life Scholarship and within 3 weeks the Burns family moved from Arizona to a fully furnished rental house in Abilene. This allowed Mike and Robyn Burns to monitor the progress of the home and integrate into the community of Abilene at the same time” explained Laura Yarborough, Abilene Home Team leader.
“Many thanks to everyone involved in building the ADA compliant home for Mike Burns and his family. All our TSF homes are 100% debt-free, mortgage-free and furnished which lifts the financial burdens off our TSF wounded warriors. They can focus on their rehabilitation and start building their new lives in the comfort and safety of their dream home” declared Richard Filip, Co-Founder of the Texas Sentinels Foundation.
